The Westham Island Bridge is a partially single-lane, wood-deck truss bridge located in Ladner, British Columbia. The bridge passes over Canoe Pass in the Fraser River Estuary and connects Ladner with Westham Island. The bridge's length is approximately 325 m (1066 feet). The bridge was constructed between 1909 and 1912 and has undergone extensive refitting over the years. Recently, Translink the owner of the Westham Island Bridge engaged engineering and construction services to improve the scour protection of the Western abutment and fixed span portion.
Delta Aggregates was engaged to perform the construction work of building access, placing both filter and armour layers of rock to protect the bridge foundation piles and as-built survey information. Balancing the work around the aging structure, working with local tide cycles and within a narrow right of way under the watchful eye of inspectors and environmental monitors the works were successfully completed in a very short time window.
